Peewee Braves to AA provincials
The Burnaby Braves qualified for the peewee AA provincial baseball championships, following a 12-2 win over the Richmond West Mariners.
The Braves gave up two runs in the opening inning to the Mariners, but it was all Burnaby the rest of the way.
Nolan Shelley and Brendan Gaunt both rapped run-scoring doubles in the bottom of the first and starting pitcher Tanner White settled down over the next three innings, allowing just one Richmond hit.
The Braves then finished off the M's with a seven-run fifth, on doubles by Vaughn Mabaone, Brandon Favaro and Gaunt. Daniel Altoe also clubbed a solo dinger for the winners.
The victory improved the Braves' record to 8-1 atop the West division, qualifying the Burnaby team as one of 10 teams from across B.C. to the peewee AA provincial tournament in Westbank Aug. 4 to 8.
