Riders rein in awards
Two Burnaby riders are putting the giddy-up into the international equestrian scene.
Simon Fraser University senior Diana Dusevic recently became a B.C. champion in second-level dressage and also earned regional honours in two other divisions, while Christopher Lowe, 20, will be the only rider representing B.C. at the North American young riders show jumping championship next week in Chicago, Illinois.
Dusevic, 22, will compete on her mount Picasso Jr. next week at the elite Devonwood dressage competition in Sherwood, Oregon in the U.S. Dressage Federation championships.
What makes Dusevic's accomplishment special is the short period of time horse and rider have come together. Dusevic purchased the horse in February. "When I bought him, he didn't know much at all," she said.
Lowe has just returned from a month's competition at Spruce Meadows in Calgary, where he brought back the Molson silver star, an award to promising Canadian riders who have not yet been named to the Olympic team.
The North American young riders competition is considered the premier show jumping competition in North America for riders under 21 years old.
