Burnaby leads Western assault

The Burnaby Focus under-14 boys' Aerial Assault volleyball team won a gold medal at the Western Canada open tournament in Saskatoon, May 9.

The Aerial Assault squad of Dylan Cameron, Xining Chong, Luca Fogale, Wade Hopwo, Myles Leong, Tyler Jung, David Stashuk and Chris Wong defeated a team from Winnipeg in the Tier 3 division final.

The Barton Lim-coached team beat Yukon in the semifinal and a team from Edmonton in the quarter-finals.

A week earlier, Aerial Assault placed fourth in the Tier 1 division at the B.C. Volleyball provincial club championships.

Be a gold guy

Tryouts for the B.C. Summer Games boys' zone 4 volleyball team will be held in June.

Boys born in 1989 and 1990 are encouraged to come out and help defend the gold medal the zone team won at last year's Summer Games.

Tryouts will be held June 1 and 2 at Burnaby North secondary, south building, from 6 to 9 p.m.
